Kent's One... | My Resume. |
1. I was born and raised on a farm outside of Liberty Center, Ohio [graduating class of 63#, 1986]. I was called into the ministry when I was a Sophomore sitting in the back pew of my home church, Shiloh Christian Union Church. I didn't really seek God's plan until I was a Senior in High School. God lead me to go to college. I started my college studies at Christian Union Bible College, Greenfield, Ohio. This is where I met my good friend Scott Anderson, who is now a Pastor in Santa Fe, Ohio --Grace Christian Union Church, and married to the beautiful Cindy Anderson (they have no kids yet, but a few cats and stray dogs). I was a summer intern at a church in Iowa and was Youth Pastor at Bethel CU, outside of Chillicothe, Ohio for 1.5 years. | 2. I
transferred to Fort Wayne Bible College in Spring 1989, but
graduated under the changed name of Summit Christian College in 1991 [now:
Taylor
University, Fort Wane Campus] with a B.A. in Bible and Christian Education
and a minor in Pastoral Ministries. This is where I met my good friend
Tyler Garth, who is now married to the lovely Rebecca Garth and living
in Parker City, Indiana (where he is on staff at Christ Fellowship Church
and works as a mail carrier as well). I was Associate Pastor while in Fort
Wayne for 2.5 years at First CU Church.

3. 1991 was a big year for me. I graduated from Summit Christian College in May, my father was killed in a car accident in June and I enrolled in the Master's of Divinity program at Asbury Theological Seminary in August. There is too much to include during these years. Suffice it say, I graduated with a M.Div. in 1995. I really was a fall grad in 1994. February of 1995 found me managing Little Caesar's Pizza, but I felt like I was dying inside. After several days of prayer and contacts, I trapeezed to live with my friend Tyler Garth. I then swung to the next trapeeze to Indy where there is too much to include [again]. Suffice it to say [again] that I got a job at the Baxter YMCA Daycamp, lived with a complete stranger who loved Jesus, and met my wife-to-be--Melissa Lee. | 4. I was interviewing for the position of Singles/Worship leader in a church in Tampa, Fla. They were ready to fly me down for an interview when I really felt impressed to atttend some revival meetings in Parker City. I believed God was telling me He would show me His best plan there and then. I was right. It was there I met Pastor Timothy Joseph Helm and soon after became the Assocaite Pastor of Hanfield UMC. To make a long story short, I kept dating Melissa [doing the traveling and calling thing, back anf forth from Indy] and proposed to her Chrsitmas Eve 1995 at the Walkway of Lights in Marion. She said, ... "YES!" |

As several of you know, I [Kent] had resigned from the position of Associate Pastor at Hanfield UMC in December and am still listening to hear where God would have me be. I have visited and delivered sermons at three churches that were interested in having me be their Pastor, but we continue to wait for God's timing. Perhaps their are some things that need to be resolved or lined up yet at Hanfield before I can completely move on. | I tried part-time my skills at being a Mortgage Specialist with a friend at his business in Marion, IN. That lasted for a bout three weeks, and then my schooling sort of took over --I registered at Indiana Wesleyan University in their Master's of Counseling program. I have also been called on several times [and continue to be so] to substitute teach in Marion Community schools and Oak Hill School, all ages! I am also Boys Varsity Track coach at Oak Hill High. I am still doing some premarital counseling for couples seeking to be married at Hanfield --I like it.. |
So we wait ... substitute teach, coach track, pray, mow the lawn, fix things around our rented farm house, pray, plan baby showers, gather baby materials, ride my bike to try and lose that 10#+ I gained, pray and encourage Melissa with her teaching and pregnancy. Did I mention pray? =) |
